By Kelly Bauer | October 19, 2017 8:19am

CHICAGO — A woman was critically injured when a man poured a chemical on her on the Near North Side Wednesday night, police said.

About 8 p.m., the 59-year-old woman and a man she knows were in a home in the first block of West Chicago Avenue when they got into a fight, police said. The man poured a "toxic chemical" onto the woman, police said.

The woman inhaled the chemical and suffered "severe respiratory distress," police said. She was taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition.

The chemical was acetone, or nail polish remover, according to the Tribune.

The man allegedly behind the attack, who is also 59 years old, was found, police said. An investigation was ongoing.

The incident was possibly "domestic-related," police said.
