CHICAGO — Bail was set at $40,000 Saturday for an 18-year-old man charged in the beating and robbery of a Northwestern University student in Streeterville earlier this month.

Rashawn Duniver, 18, of the 8100 block of South Maryland Avenue, and a 14-year-old girl, whose name wasn't released because she is a juvenile, are both charged in the Oct. 8 attack.

Duniver turned himself in after his mother recognized him in news reports about the robbery, the Tribune reported.

Police said Duniver and the teen were among a group of attackers who walked up to a 22-year-old man about 8 p.m. in the 700 block of North Fairbanks Court, punched him in his face and knocked him to the ground. Duniver continued to beat the man until he gave up his cellphone password and laptop.

The victim was on his way to a birthday party before the robbery, according to NBC5.

Duniver also was charged with robbery in the attack of a man less than a half hour later in the 800 block of North Dearborn Avenue, beating him until he gave up his cellphone password and then stealing the phone and credit cards, police said.

Police said these men and woman attacked and robbed a man Oct. 8 in Streeterville.
