WRIGLEYVILLE — While some Wrigleyville bars were charging as much as $250 per person just to walk through the door during the World Series last year, GMan Tavern, 3740 N. Clark St., charged no cover at all.

Instead, the bar encouraged patrons to donate to Lakeview Pantry, one of the largest and longest-running food pantries in Chicago that fed 8,200 people in 2016. In the end, GMan donated $10,000 to the pantry.

The Wrigleyville bar announced Thursday it will again encourage $5 donations in lieu of a cover.

"We want to make it clear that the Cubs' success is the neighborhood's success," GMan owner Joe Shanahan said. "We've called Wrigleyville home for 35 years, and we want to continue to enrich a neighborhood that has embraced us so wholeheartedly."

The Cubs will play the Washington Nationals in the National League Division Series at:

3:08 p.m. Monday at Wrigley Field

• 4:38 p.m. Tuesday at Wrigley Field

• 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Washington, D.C. (if necessary)

"It's through community partnerships like these that enable our pantry to distribute 1.3 million meals to our neighbors in need every year," said Kellie O'Connell, executive director of Lakeview Pantry, upon receiving GMan Tavern's donation last year.

"The holidays are a particularly tough time for our clients, and this donation helps ensure our neighbors in need have a Thanksgiving or holiday meal this season."
