HYDE PARK — It’s the best time of year for book lovers on the South Side with the three-day-long Hyde Park Used Book Sale approaching this weekend.

With more than 30,000 volumes up for grabs for 50 cents to $2, the annual fall book sale is a chance to fill up the bookcase for the next year while helping South Side parks and schools.

Proceeds from the book sale are used to help Hyde Park schools and parks over the next year.

The sale starts Saturday morning with a mad rush of the hardcore book lovers searching for rare or valuable volumes that have been donated for the sale.

The sale runs 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Monday in the Hyde Park Shopping Center courtyard, 1526 E. 55th St.

Teachers and nonprofits are eligible for free books from the sale and should contact George Rumsey at gwrumsey@att.net.

Churches, nursing homes, schools, hospitals and other organizations also can get bulk boxes of free books at the end of the sale Monday and are asked to call 773-419-1384 before the sale to make arrangements.
