By Kelly Bauer | October 3, 2017 8:43am

CHICAGO — A baby girl has died just days after officials tried to rescue her when her pregnant mother was fatally shot in Washington Heights.

At 7:39 a.m. Friday, 20-year-old Charnella Lemon and 33-year-old Terrence Carter were sitting in a parked car in the 400 block of West 102nd Place when someone walked up to them and fired shots, officials said.

Lemon and Carter were pronounced dead that day. Lemon was pregnant and medical staff were able to deliver the infant, a girl who was named Jenae Lemon. The baby was in critical condition after the procedure, the Tribune reported.

Jenae Lemon, four days old, died 2:28 p.m. Monday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
