WRIGLEYVILLE — After the Cubs' very long-awaited World Series win last season, fans knew it was only a matter of time before someone made a movie about it.

That movie is "Teammate," based on the memoir by David Ross, "Teammate: My Journey in Baseball and a World Series for the Ages." The book chronicles the final game of the series last year against the Cleveland Indians, when the 40-year-old Ross made history as the oldest player ever to hit a home run in game seven of the World Series.

On Wednesday, Australian director Shane Abbess was announced as the director of "Teammate." Abbess is a huge baseball fan, but he's got a short list of credits in directing: According to IMDb, he most recently directed the science fiction flick "The Osiris Child," and his first directing credit was in 2007 on yet another sci-fi film, "Gabriel."

According to Deadline, Cubs mega-fan Bill Murray has been in talks to play Cubs manager Joe Maddon, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

"Teammate" will follow the Cubs through the World Series, including that fateful game 7. There is no release date for the movie yet.

The Cubs and Wrigley Field are 95 percent owned by a trust established for the benefit of the family of Joe Ricketts, owner and CEO of DNAinfo.com. Joe Ricketts has no direct involvement in the management of the iconic team.
