LINCOLN SQUARE — Lincoln Square's Apple Fest is turning 30 and is celebrating the milestone by debuting a new feature — the first-ever Apple Pie Bake-off.

A symbolic 30 contestants will vie on Sunday for the title of best pie, with a panel of culinary experts judging the entries, no doubt deducting points for soggy bottoms.

The grand prize winner will take home not only bragging rights but also $200 worth of gift cards to local businesses. The runner-up will receive $100 in gift cards.

The deadline to enter is 5 p.m. Wednesday. Click here for all the details.

Apple Fest runs 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on Lincoln Avenue between Lawrence and Eastwood.

Highlights include Saturday's annual pooch costume contest and parade (click here to register), two music stages, food and drinks, and apples, apples and more apples.
