DOWNTOWN — What drives a crowd full of pop singer Harry Styles fans into a frenzy?
Pizza, as it turns out.
Styles, who gained fame as a member of One Direction and is riding high on his solo career, paused during his show Tuesday at the Chicago Theatre to talk a little local food talk (with a punch line.)
The singer-songwriter said when he first came to Chicago a few years ago, "everyone said the same thing: 'You have to try the pizza.' "
He concluded that, despite what some "hipster person" might say, the two best are Giordano's and Lou Malnati's. He took a poll of the crowd which they liked best.
It was hard to determine from a video posted on YouTube which was the winner but he observed "One is a little cheesier, correct? And the other is a little crust-based?"
"You prefer the cheese?" he said, pausing for effect before delivering the kicker.
"That's why," he said, "you came to see me perform."
