KENWOOD — Whole Foods will donate 5 percent of its daily proceeds from sales Wednesday to Friends of Kenwood Academy.

The fundraising push is the latest for the parent group of Kenwood Academy, 5015 S. Blackstone Ave., as it raises its fundraising goal for the year to $50,000 from $10,000.

The donation from Whole Foods, at 5118 S. Lake Park Ave., will go toward the new goal of $50,000, with more than $20,000 already committed to the school.

On Sept. 6, the group said it hit its summer fundraising goal of $10,000, triggering a matching donation of $10,000 from Fritz Kaegi, a mutual fund manager and candidate for Cook County assessor.

The group of parents and alumni has made an aggressive push in the neighborhood this year, getting local businesses to give discounts to students or make donations.

The group secured a donation of plants Sept. 1 from the South Loop Home Depot to beautify the academic center.

The money raised will be given to Kenwood Principal Gregory Jones to improve the school, pay for college visits for students and other needs.
