WICKER PARK — The owner of a 2010 Dodge Journey had a rough start to the day on Friday when his SUV got stolen, driven into a building and then tagged with graffiti in Wicker Park.

Chicago police found the SUV, crashed into a century-old building at 1647 N. Milwaukee Ave., and alerted the owner, who didn't know his SUV had been stolen, police said.

"Could have killed someone walking on the sidewalk," said Alex Weiner, who posted photos of the smashed-up Dodge.

Shakespeare District officers found it at 4:50 a.m. Friday, said Officer Brandi Wright, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

Around 7 a.m. Friday, pools of motor oil, tire tracks and shards of glass covered the ground in front of the building.

The building is under construction. A sign in the window advertises office space.

"No one was on scene. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and said that the vehicle had been stolen. There was spraypainting also on the vehicle," Wright said, adding that the matter is under investigation.
