CHICAGO — A group of burglars have been breaking into people's homes while the victims slept, police said.

During the burglaries, the thieves went into houses or apartments where people inside were sleeping and took items, according to a Chicago Police Department community alert. During one incident, a burglar carried a gun and showed it to a victim.

The burglaries occurred at:

• 3:30 a.m. Aug. 29 in the 400 block of East 32nd Street

• at noon Aug. 29 in the 400 block of East 32nd Street

• 2 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of East 32nd Street

The burglars were described as one to three black men or boys who were 6 feet to 6-foot-2 inches tall and weighed 170-180 pounds, police said. One had short hair and another had dreadlocks.

Police advised residents to keep the exteriors of their homes well-lit, work with neighbors to look for suspicious activity around each other's homes, lock doors and windows and save surveillance video if a burglary occurs.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call police at 312-747-8380.
