KENWOOD — Blackstone Public Library is closing for a nearly a month starting Sept. 11 as it gets some needed repairs.

The Chicago Public Library has been investing in repairs to its oldest library branch at 4904 S. Lake Park Ave. and will have to close the building temporarily as work moves indoors.

The historic murals in the rotunda by Chicago painter Oliver Dennett Grover were restored back in 2009 and now the glass dome in the center of the rotunda is also getting some attention.

The mosaic tile floor in the rotunda is also getting cleaned and repaired, along with the flooring and carpeting throughout the branch.

The children’s area is getting revamped and the circulation desk will also get some upgrades.

All this work requires the branch be closed until Oct. 9.

The interior work follows tuck-pointing and roof and foundation repairs over the past weeks.

The next closest libraries while Blackstone is closed are the Hall Branch Library, 4801 S. Michigan Ave., and the Coleman Branch Library, 731 E. 63rd St.
