CHICAGO — A woman was charged with child endangerment after police found four neglected children in her Dunning home on Sunday, officials said.

At 12:35 p.m., officers responded to a well-being check in the 6700 block of West Irving Park Road, where they discovered "four neglected juveniles," according to Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

The children were brought to Community First Hospital for evaluation, then brought into care of the state's Department of Children and Family Services, Amezaga said.

Julia A. Rizzio, 32, was charged with four counts of causing a child to be endangered, police said. Rizzio is due in court on Sept. 13.

The Department of Children and Family Services is investigating Rizzio, identified as the children's mother, for allegations of neglect, according to a spokeswoman.
