WASHINGTON PARK — Metra has closed the viaduct at 51st Street and Federal Street and will keep it closed until Halloween.

The viaduct is closed for two months of maintenance and is expected to reopen on Oct. 31, according to Metra.

The closure would cut off the Wentworth District Police Station, 5101 S. Wentworth Ave., from the majority of its patrol area east of the road closure. But Metra said it has made arrangements to keep the road open only to police and officials from the neighboring courthouse.

All other traffic heading east will be rerouted up Wentworth to 47th Street and then back south on State Street. Westbound traffic will be detoured north on State Street to 47th Street and back south on Wells Street.

The underpass at Pershing Road and Federal Street is also still closed until Sept. 8 as work continues on the Rock Island District line.
