HYDE PARK — Twice on Sunday, University of Chicago students were robbed in the middle of the day in Hyde Park.

The University of Chicago Police Department sent out alerts Sunday about the two incidents, one of which involved a girl getting her hair pulled and having her cell phone taken.

The first robbery happened at 10:15 a.m. Sunday near 54th Street and Greenwood Avenue. Two people came up to a student as they were getting out of a car and demanded valuables, with one implying they had a gun under their shirt. The student handed over cash and the two robbers ran away.

University police did not provide a description of either suspect.

The student was not hurt.

The second robbery happened at 1:45 p.m. Sunday near 54th Street east of Ellis Avenue. A student was walking down the sidewalk when a person came up and demanded her cell phone. When she refused, the person pulled her hair, snatched her cell phone and ran away.

University police said they have already increased patrols in the area.

The Chicago Police Department is investigating both robberies.
