Pro Surfer 'Hitch Hikes' On Lakefront: VIDEO

By DNAinfo Staff | August 16, 2017 6:00am

CHICAGO — For Zane Kekoas Schweitzer, surfing is a way of life: The Hawaii-native this year has hit the waves in New Zealand, Tahiti, China and Spain among other places.

One of those other places was Chicago.

The professional surfer, who has been competing since he was 11, this week posted this video of him on Lake Michigan using a hydrofoil while using the waves created by a boat, putting on his own air and water show.

Hyrdofoils have a wing-like base that lifts the board above the water line.

The video was posted Tuesday but on Facebook Schweitzer indicates that he was "hitch hiking on Lake Michigan" on Aug. 11.

"Fun times surfing on the lake!! Thanks for the ride @chicagosup!" wrote Schweitzer, who won the 2016 Master of the Ocean competition in Dominican Republic, according to SUP Magazine. The contest includes surfing, Stand Up surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing.
