NORTH PARK — Having operated under the leadership of an interim president since fall 2016, Northeastern Illinois University will now begin the search for permanent replacement — and neighbors are invited to take part in the process, the school's board of trustees announced.

Richard Helldobler has been serving as interim president since the retirement of Sharon Hahs in September. His appointment runs through April

The board will host a pair of forums at which members of the community can weigh in on both the search process and the criteria for the new president.

The forums will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 22 and 2 p.m. Aug. 30 in the main campus auditorium. Those unable to attend can share their opinions online at neiu.edu/feedback.

The board is also soliciting nominations for a search advisory committee. Residents can nominate themselves or a neighbor. Anyone interested should send their email, phone number and relevant personal information to Mike Dizon at m-dizon@neiu.edu by Aug. 18.
