LINCOLN SQUARE — Poet Kevin Coval will perform Thursday at the Book Cellar in support of his latest work, "A People's History of Chicago."

Coval, co-founder of the youth poetry fest Louder Than a Bomb and a veteran of HBO's "Def Poetry Jam," will be joined by fellow poets Jalen Kobayashi, Subbi Namakula and Ryan Volpe at 7 p.m. at the shop at 4736 N. Lincoln Ave.

"A People's History of Chicago" traces the city's story — from its earliest inhabitants up through fall 2016 — via 77 poems representing the often untold perspective of those on the margins, including the poor and people of color. The book also features a forward by Chance the Rapper.

Copies will be sold, and Coval will be signing them.
