HYDE PARK — Kids can get off the shores of Jackson Park’s lagoons to learn about all the new plants in the park.

Ecologist Lauren Umek of the Chicago Park District will lead an evening of identifying plants from canoes from 6-8 p.m. Friday in the the Jackson Park lagoons.

Kids age six and older will learn all the plants already established around the lagoons and the many new plants now growing through a habitat restoration project by the Park District and the Army Corp of Engineers.

The outing is $8 per person and registration is available on the Park District’s website.

People can still come if they bring their own canoe once registration is full, according to the Park District.

The event starts at the Clarence Darrow bridge at the western edge of the parking lots behind the Museum of Science and Industry.
