ALBANY PARK — Just shy of its second anniversary, Cafe Chien is closing indefinitely as of Tuesday, which will be the last day of service.

Owner Maxine Chaikouang made the announcement on Facebook earlier in July.

"I appreciate every single person who has stepped foot through the doors and am completely honored and indebted to the devoted regulars who have kept this place as alive as it is. However, it is no longer in my best interests to stay open," she posted.

The cafe opened in September 2015 at 4749 N. Spaulding Ave. Chaikouang wanted the coffee shop to also act as a community hub and hosted numerous events, including regular poetry readings.

Chaikouang hinted at the possibility the closing might not be permanent.

"Maybe someday we can open the doors again," she said.

Stop by Monday or Tuesday for a cup of coffee from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
