BUCKTOWN — A group of five young men stole a car from a Bucktown resident on Friday night, police said.

The carjacking, which was captured on surveillance video, happened about 6:15 p.m. Friday in the 1700 block of North Winnebago Avenue, just south of the 606's elevated Bloomingdale Trail.

A man with a gun in his waistband approached the 38-year-old victim and demanded his car keys, according to Officer Brandi Wright, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

As the gunman showed his weapon to the victim, four more men quickly approached, jumped into the car and drove away.

The carjacking happened in front of Pinnacle Lofts and was captured on the condo association's surveillance video.

"This is scary stuff, and I hope those involved are identified and apprehended," said a Pinnacle Lofts resident who asked not to be named.

No one is in custody, and Area North detectives are investigating, Wright said.
