NORTH PARK — Jiminy Cricket may be the only insect with a hit record, but he's not the only one that sings.

Join a pair of soundwalks Friday evening at North Park Village Nature Center and learn to train your ears to hear the songs of grasshoppers, katydids, cicadas, crickets and more.

The event is being presented by the Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology and the Singing Insect Project, which is documenting unusual insect calls.

Gather at 5:30 p.m. at the Nature Center, 5801 N. Pulaski Road, where a series of listening exercises will precede a short soundwalk. A second soundwalk will follow, after a session of singing insect monitoring training.
