IRVING PARK — An early morning fire destroyed a metals factory in Irving Park on Friday.
Firefighters responded about 4 a.m. to an alarm at Horizon Metals, 3925 N. Pulaski Road.
The fire has been extinguished, but the building is a loss, according to reports.
No workers were present at the time of the fire. WGN reported that one firefighter suffered a back injury and was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital.
The fire caused the rerouting of CTA buses on Irving Park Road and Pulaski and affected traffic in the area as well, with street closures, including blocked access to the Kennedy Expy.
Horizon Metals manufactures products for industrial use and jewelers. The company also recycles scrap metal.
