CHICAGO — A plan to add a Starbucks drive-through at Cicero and Berteau avenues OKd by a city board includes 51 new trees.

A special permit for the construction of a Starbucks drive-thru at the corner of Cicero and Berteau avenues in the Six Corners Shopping District was approved Friday by the Zoning Board of Appeals.

In March, developer Rubicon X Cicero, LLC unveiled a plan to build the coffee shop flush against Cicero Avenue, with a front patio and a back parking lot with 13 spaces.

The design also leaves room for a "public art feature" facing the street, according to Owen Brugh, chief of staff to Ald. John Arena (45th).

The latest plan would see 51 new trees spanning 10 different species planted around the property, plus 11 species of vines, grasses and shrubs.

The site used to be a satellite parking lot for Family Fruit Market, 4118 N. Cicero Ave., across the street. The market closed last year, and a Dollar Tree store replaced it in January.

The developer is applying for construction permits and aims to open the coffee shop sometime next year, Brugh said.

If the permits are issued, the project would mark the third Starbucks to open on the Northwest Side in the span of a few months.

Last month, the Zoning Board of Appeals approved the construction of a Starbucks drive-thru and "sandwich chain" in a long-vacant lot at the corner of Central Avenue and Irving Park Road in the Portage Park neighborhood.

And last week, Arena announced that the Seattle-based chain applied for permits to inhabit the former site of Brown's Chicken, 5601 W. Lawrence Ave., in Jefferson Park.
