Armed Robber Hits Twice Just Blocks From Police Station

WASHINGTON PARK — Washington Park has been hit by a string of armed robberies, according to police.

Three armed robberies between July 11 and July 15 were reported all within a few blocks of each other, police said.

The first robbery was at 6:30 p.m. on July 11 on the 5400 block of South Wentworth Avenue, just three blocks south of the Wentworth District Police Station.

The second robbery happened at 5:25 p.m. July 13 on the 5300 block of South Wabash Avenue, followed by a third robbery at 2:30 p.m. July 15 again on the 5400 block of South Wentworth Avenue.

Police said in once instance, the man tried to attack the victim with a knife and in another instance the victim’s car was also stolen. A handgun was also used in several incidents.
