LINCOLN SQUARE — Neighbors will have an opportunity to weigh in on the plan to redevelop the Lawrence Avenue Sears site at a community meeting Tuesday night.
The proposal is for a mixed-use complex — ground floor retail and 59 apartments above — at the former Sears, 1900 W. Lawrence Ave., which shuttered in August 2016.
At an initial presentation in May, neighbors objected to the developer's plan to convert one-way sections of Winchester and Wolcott avenues to two-way in order to accommodate delivery vehicles, a change that would also cause the loss of a number of parking spaces on those streets.
Tuesday's meeting — at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 1900 W. Leland Ave. — is expected to address those issues.
Aside from parking and traffic concerns, residents who live along Lawrence Avenue between Ravenswood and Western have complained about the slew of developments slated for the area and the anticipated increase in density.
Ald. Ameya Pawar (47th) has stated that denser development is needed to maintain the vibrancy of Lincoln Square, and to counter the de-conversion of two- and three-flats into single family homes.
