Humboldt Park Shooting Wounds Man Who Thought He'd Been Hit By Firework

CHICAGO — A man who was shot in Humboldt Park originally thought he had been hit by a firework early Monday, police said.

At 1 a.m., the man was outside in the 1500 block of North Spaulding Avenue when he felt pain, but he assumed he had been hit by a firework, he told police.

Three hours later the man felt more pain, and he took himself to St. Elizabeth Hospital, and officials realized he had been shot, police said.

The man's condition was not immediately available.

No one was in custody.
