Tyrone Burdine, 56, Killed In Austin Shooting; Another Person Wounded

CHICAGO — A 56-year-old man was shot to death and a 19-year-old man wounded in Austin on Tuesday night, police said.

At 8:14 p.m., the older man was in front of a home in the 1600 block of North Major Avenue and the younger man was walking on the block when someone in a car fired shots, police said.

The 56-year-old was hit in his head and taken to Loyola Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Tyrone Burdine, of the same block where he was shot, was pronounced dead at 12:43 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The 19-year-old was hit in his back and taken to Loyola Hospital in serious condition.

Officers did not think the older man was an intended target of the shooting, a police source said.

No one was in custody.
