CHICAGO — A woman who was a mail carrier in suburban Westmont for 17 years was among two women killed in a shooting in Washington Park Wednesday, co-workers and police say.

Juliet Washington, 41, was driving with Jeanine Dowell, 32, at 10:30 pm. in the 5400 block of South Wabash Avenue when someone in another car fired shots at them, police said.

The women were shot in their heads and were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Dowell, of the first block of West 109th Street, and Washington, of suburban Woodridge, were pronounced dead at 10:38 p.m., according to Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records.

The murder baffled colleagues of Washington, who worked as a mail carrier for 17 years. Boone attend DuSable High School in Chicago but now lives in the suburbs.

"She was a great employee, loved her job," said Westmont Postmaster Shenita Robinson. "We're just still in shock."

Co-worker Domonique Boone said she "always had a smile on her face."

"Her customers love her," Boone said.

Washington had two kids, one who is in college and another in elementary school, colleagues said.

"Here kids were her world," Robinson said.

"She was the definition of an excellent parent," said Boone.

Washington loved to travel, Boone said.

Police gave no motive for the crime and said no one was in custody in the murders.
