HYDE PARK — The Hyde Park Jazz Festival has released its lineup for the Sept. 23-24 concert with a tribute to jazz pianist Thelonius Monk.

The annual festival with music, screenings and other events on 13 stages around Hyde Park and Kenwood kicks of at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 23 and runs through 7 p.m. Sept. 24.

This year’s festival will celebrate what would have been the 100th birthday of pianist and composer Thelonius Monk.

Among the celebrations of Monk are performances by clarinetist Ben Goldberg, a “Double Monk” performance by pianists Jeremy Kahn and Steve Million with dancer Ariane Dolan and a lecture by Monk biographer Robin Kelley.

Vocalist Dee Alexander has also assembled her Monk and the Ladies ensemble including Tomeka Reid on cello, Marion Hayden on bass and Gayellyn McKinney on drums for a performance.

The festival will also include debuts of new compositions, screenings and lectures and historians there to collect the oral history of Chicago’s jazz scene.
