LINCOLN PARK — Cummings Playground, which most Chicago parents know as the playlot across from Lincoln Park Zoo, has reopened with a new European-style design and equipment.

The neighboring Lincoln Park Cultural Center Advisory Council is sponsoring a celebration from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at 2045 N. Lincoln Park West.

Calling it "a great neighborhood playground that is well used by all," Camille Grejczyk, president of the council, said the event will include face painting, bubbles, chalk art and popcorn. A raffle will offer prizes including Cub tickets, a gourmet wine basket and chances to study with the Hubbard Street Dance Academy.

The park renovation was first announced in August, with funding supplied by the Chicago Park District and Francis Parker Neighbors. Local residents subsequently selected a European-style design and equipment for the renovation.

The park was previously redone about 25 years ago, with the addition of animal sculptures by Tom Tischler. An additional set of sculptures of a lioness and cub by Boban Ilic was added in 2003.
