CHICAGO — A man was shot dead in Woodlawn early Wednesday, police said.
At 3:30 a.m., officers responding to a call of a "man down" found the man lying on a sidewalk in the 6400 block of South Maryland Avenue, police said. The man had been shot in his head and right side and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Charles Irving Smith Jr., 45, of an unknown home address, was pronounced dead at 4:05 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
No one was in custody.
