Rhymefest Produces Bike Safety Video For Blackstone Bicycle Works

By Sam Cholke | June 14, 2017 5:46am | Updated on June 14, 2017 8:12am

WOODLAWN — Che “Rhymefest” Smith has teamed up with Blackstone Bicycle Works to create a new video on bike safety.

Smith, known for his collaborations with Kanye West and Common, teamed up with Connie Spreen, executive director of Experimental Station and known for her love of literature, to produce the video released Tuesday on bike safety.

In “Stay In Your Lane,” South Side lyricist Jorge Mikell raps about not using Snapchat while riding a bike and wearing clothes that make riders clearly visible to drivers.

But it doesn’t sound pedantic when coming from Mikell, Adarah Hale and others in the video filmed in the bike shop at Experimental Station, 6100 S. Blackstone Ave.

The video comes ahead of a day of free bike tuneups from noon-5 p.m. Saturday at the Promontory, 5311 S. Lake Park Ave. The Juice Box will provide drinks, and well White Mystery and The Lemons will provide live music.
