CHICAGO — A 39-year-old man was fatally shot in Garfield Park on Monday night, officials said.

At 10:15 p.m., officers responding to a call of shots fired found the man sitting in a car in the 4700 block of West Superior Street, police said. He had been shot multiple times in his head, back and arm.

The man was taken to West Suburban Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The man was identified as Clancy Beasley, of suburban Bellwood, by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. He was pronounced dead at 10:17 p.m.

The circumstances of the shooting were unknown, police said, but the possible attacker might have driven away in a white van.

The man was a documented gang member, a police source said.

No one was in custody.
