1 Person Shot By Police, Another Injured In Montclare Incident

CHICAGO — Officers shot and wounded one person late Tuesday in Montclare, police said, and another person was injured in the incident.

At 11:54 p.m., the officers were driving in the 2900 block of North Newland Avenue when they saw two men or boys in a gray car fire shots at them, hitting a nearby car, according to a Chicago Police news release.

The officers chased the gray car into an alley, where they had an "armed confrontation" with the two people inside, police said. An officer fired his gun, hitting the passenger in the car.

Police originally said both people in the car had been shot, but they later said the driver was injured by an "impact head injury" during the incident.

The men or boys were taken to area hospitals, police said. They were critically wounded, according to the Chicago Tribune. No officers were injured.

Two guns were found at the scene, police said.

The shooting will be investigated by the Independent Police Review Authority, and the officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days.

The incident was the fourth time since Friday officers have been fired at while on duty, police said.

It was also the third police-involved shooting since Friday, when officers shot dead a man in Washington Park. Another man was shot by an officer and critically wounded on Saturday after he struggled with officers, leading to an officer being shot in his hand, police said.

The Chicago Police Department released its new Use of Force policy in May.
