LOGAN SQUARE — A 21-year-old man has been charged with armed robbery after he allegedly held up a worker at a Logan Square store at gunpoint, took items and cash and then sparked a SWAT situation, police said.

The incident began around 11 a.m. Tuesday with a robbery at an AT&T store in the 2700 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, police said.

A SWAT team later responded to the 3200 block of West Diversey Avenue. The situation ended around 6:45 p.m.

Dreonta Deton, 21, of the 1300 block of S. Blue Island Ave., was charged with one felony count of armed robbery with a firearm, according to Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Amezaga said that Deton was taken into custody after being identified as the person who robbed the cell phone store.

Deton allegedly forced a male AT&T store employee into a backroom where he demanded several phones and electronic items. Then, Deton forced the man at gunpoint to open the register and turn over money, police said.

After fleeing the store, Deton was found later in the day at the Diversey location by Shakespeare District (14th) officers and SWAT, who placed him in custody.

No injuries were reported and all proceeds were recovered along with a handgun.

Deton is scheduled to appear in bond court on Wednesday.
