KENWOOD — Barack and Michelle Obama have purchased the house they’ve been renting in Washington, D.C., but that doesn’t mean their Kenwood home is up for sale anytime soon.

Obama spokesman Kevin Lewis on Wednesday confirmed the Obamas had purchased the 8,200-square-foot home in the Kalorama neighborhood they have rented since Obama left the White House.

“Given that President and Mrs. Obama will be in Washington for at least another two and a half years, it made sense for them to buy a home rather than continuing to rent property,” Lewis said.

The Obamas have paid $8.1 million for the home, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Sources close to the Obamas said they have no plans to sell their Kenwood home at 5046 S. Greenwood Ave. and plan to own two homes for the immediate future.

The Obamas decided to stay in D.C. for at least two years after leaving the White House so their youngest daughter, Sasha, could finish high school.
