LAKEVIEW — Two separate drivers on two separate days this week were literally stopped in their tracks after they drove into wet cement on the Southport Corridor.

Water main construction on Southport Avenue has been wrapping up over the past week, with crews transferring lines to the new main in the final stages of the project.

Once complete, the trench was filled with concrete. And it appears some Lakeview drivers were too impatient to wait for the sludgy mixture to dry before giving it a test drive this week.

Unfortunately, both a black Ford Edge and a beige Honda CRV were not up to the task, and both got stuck on the corner of Southport and School, as depicted in photos from Reid Compton (@reidcompton) and @Logan33dc:

Twitter users seized the moment with some well-crafted jokes:

The pictures make clear that challenging the orange-coned authority of construction workers and defiantly journeying into the cordoned-off corridor is a bad idea — with potentially high-cost consequences.

Not swayed? Think your car is up to the challenge? While we don't recommend it, if you do try, please send us pics.
