JACKSON PARK — WaveRunners, food and live music are coming to 63rd Street beach under a new partnership with Reggies.

Developer Edric Calahan said he’s working with the South Loop club to open a restaurant in the 63rd Street beach house and bring water sports like wave runners.

He said menu will be similar to Reggies’ sandwiches and burgers, and the restaurant will have a full bar.

Calahan said Reggies will build a 60-foot deck on the southern end of the beach house for the restaurant and will include a stage for performances.

WaveRunner and paddle board rental is planned for the southern end of the beach house.

Calahan said an area of the lake would be roped off specifically for the WaveRunners, and off-duty lifeguards would be hired to make sure all equipment is used safely.

He said the goal is to open in July or August with both projects.

“This is not an inexpensive project, so we want to get in there this summer,” Calahan said.

Ald. Leslie Hairston (5th) said she’s supporting the proposal, which is being reviewed by the Chicago Park District before leases are signed to rent out the beach house.
