CHICAGO — Armed robbers have carjacked at least three drivers stopped in traffic in the South Loop, police said Tuesday.

In each incident, the robbers got of their own cars before approaching a nearby car stopped in traffic. The robbers were armed with guns and demanded the victims exit their cars before driving off in them, police said in a community alert.

Wallets and cellphones were also stolen on several occasions.

The attacks happened:

• About 10:45 p.m. March 29 in the 2100 block of South Wabash Avenue

• About 3:30 a.m. April 11 in the 600 block of South Wabash Avenue

• About 1:40 a.m. Tuesday in the 2200 block of South Wabash Avenue

During a similar attack about 3 a.m. March 29 in the 900 block of South Michigan Avenue, the driver was able to escape before the robbers could take the car, police said.

Victims described the suspects as black men in their 20s. In one incident, police said, the attacker was somewhere between 5-foot-3 and 5-foot 7, had dreadlocks and wore a black jacket.

Another suspect was roughly 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11 with a dark complexion and black skull cap, police said. A third suspect is roughly 6-feet tall and weighs 200 pounds; he wore a red sweater.

Police said three additional suspects wore masks; one had dreadlocks.
