LINCOLN SQUARE — A mugging near the CTA Western Brown Line station ended in the arrest of one of the thieves when the victims gave chase, police said.

At about 9 p.m. Friday, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were mugged by two men while standing under the elevated tracks.

One of the suspects threatened to shoot the teens and the other implied he had a weapon, according to police.

After taking the victims' cellphones and the boy's wallet, one of the men hit the boy in the face and a fight broke out. One suspect fled north on Western Avenue and the other ran east, with the victims in pursuit.

A second scuffle took place in the 4700 block of North Lincoln Avenue. Police officers responded, arrested the suspect and recovered the stolen property.

Joseph Tengbeh, 24, of the 3400 block of South Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, was placed into custody and charged with two felony counts of aggravated robbery. He's due in court Tuesday.

Police said Tengbeh is a documented gang member and has a prior robbery conviction, police said.

The second suspect remains at large. He's described as a Hispanic male in his mid-20s, approximately five-feet eight-inches tall and weighing 190 pounds.
