WOODLAWN — The Soulful Chicago Book Fair is on its way toward becoming an annual event, as organizers announced the second year of the fest Wednesday.

This year’s festival will be July 16 and will return to a four-block stretch of 61st Street between Cottage Grove Avenue and King Drive.

The book fair is an effort by organizer Asadah Kirkland to boost interest in literature in black communities and brings authors and publishers to Woodlawn for readings and to show off new titles.

The fair will also include puppet shows, dance groups, spoken-word artists and other performers on two stages.

The event is free and open to the public.

A full schedule of events is expected to be announced soon.
