NORTH CENTER — Plans to transform North Center's Town Square have languished for years, but are now moving forward at a rapid pace.

Three preliminary concepts for the square will be unveiled at a community meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Coonley Elementary, 4046 N. Leavitt St.

The 47th Ward office, Northcenter Chamber of Commerce and Northcenter Neighborhood Association hosted an official kick-off for the square's metamorphosis just six weeks ago, announcing that Port Urbanism had been selected to develop the design.

Port Urbanism presented a broad spectrum of potential amenities at the inaugural meeting in March. The firm received feedback on those options, which it used to guide the direction of the concepts that will be shared on Tuesday.

Reaction to the proposals will in turn shape the final design. Those who are unable to attend the community meeting can still weigh in regarding their thoughts about Town Square, 4100 N. Damen Ave., via an online survey (click here).

Ald. Ameya Pawar (47th) has set aside $500,000 to jump-start the square's makeover, with the goal of creating a true year-round hub for the neighborhood.
