RAVENSWOOD — The world is watching as France holds its presidential election Sunday: Will the country become the latest to swing toward right-wing populism or will the center hold?

Chicago may actually affect the outcome of the race between far-right candidate Marine Le Pen and her centrist opponent Emmanuel Macron, and not in a Russian hacking kind of way.

The French school, Lycee Francais de Chicago, 1929 W. Wilson Ave., served as one of 44 polling stations in the U.S. where French citizens could cast a ballot in their home country's contest.

It's estimated that more than 140,000 French nationals live in the United States. The Consulate General of France in Chicago serves French residents in Illinois and 12 surrounding states.

The U.S. polls were open Saturday. Vincent Floreani, Consul General of France in Chicago, posted images of the preparations and turnout.
