LOGAN SQUARE — Now you can get a gourmet sandwich from Crown Liquors to pair with your craft beer.

A pop-up sub shop opened inside the longtime liquor store/bar at 2821 N. Milwaukee Ave. last week, serving everything from house-made pastrami sandwiches to bacon mashed potato salad.

Opening a food counter was a "no-brainer" for the owners of Crown Liquors, some of whom also own the new Ravenswood sandwich spot, Vidalia, and popular local pizza joint Dante's Pizzeria, according to Vidalia owner Georg Simos.

"In the taproom at Crown we have a lot of customers bringing in food from Dante's and other local eateries [which is great], so we thought it would be cool to give them another quick option," Simos said in an email.

The hours could change, but right now the sub shop is open from noon to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Online delivery is available.

Simos said service has been off to a "great start," and he hopes to keep the sub shop open permanently if things continue to go well.

In 2015, the classic bar underwent an interior and exterior transformation after it was sold to owners and operators of Rocking Horse, Dante’s Pizzeria and High Dive.
