HYDE PARK — University of Chicago Police say there were two robberies within minutes of each other on Sunday, but as of now they do not think the crimes are related.

Though the two robberies happened within 10 minutes of each other and followed similar patterns, the incidents happened on opposite sides of the neighborhood and descriptions of the cars used didn’t match.

The first robbery happened at 10:40 a.m. Sunday when a person walking down the street on the 5000 block of South Ellis Avenue was struck from behind by two people and had their camera taken. The two people ran off to a waiting white SUV, according to university police.

The victim reported no injuries.

The second robbery happened shortly after at 10:50 a.m. Sunday when a university staff member was approached from behind by two people while walking on the 1100 block of East 53rd Street. The two people took the staffer’s book bag and cell phone before running off to a waiting blue Chrysler, according to university police.

The victim reported no injuries.

The Chicago Police Department is investigating the two robberies.
