By  Kelly Bauer and Alisa Hauser | April 9, 2017 10:36am | Updated on April 13, 2017 9:16am

CHICAGO — Officials Wednesday identified a man who was shot and killed in Lincoln Square over the weekend.

The man was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner as Adam Salas, 44.

At 5:55 a.m., the man was driving down an alley in the 4800 block of North Rockwell Street when someone walked toward him and fired shots, police said. He was hit multiple times in his chest and taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said.

Salas, of the 2100 block of West Huron Street, was pronounced dead at 6:39 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The shooter ran away, and no one was in custody.

The man was a documented gang member who lived in West Town but had been visiting someone in Lincoln Square after an altercation that started in West Town, police sources said.

Lincoln Square resident Dave Miller said he and his wife awoke to gunshots early Sunday.

"There were five shots and a woman screaming. At first, we thought maybe we were imagining it. Then, I turned on the police scanner and heard sirens," Miller said.

Miller said in recent months there has been activity in the area that "doesn't seem normal" with people lingering in the alley and cars frequently coming or going.

"The neighborhood is concerned right now about the violence in the area," Miller said.
