HYDE PARK — University of Chicago police said Friday that earlier reports of a man being robbed in the university medical center's garage were inaccurate.

The University of Chicago Police Department issued a security alert Friday morning after a man claimed he had his iPad stolen at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the garage at 5840 S. Maryland Ave.

The man claimed he was walking in the garage when someone came up behind him, stuck something against his back and said he was robbing the man.

Eric Heath, associate vice president for safety and security at the university, said police have since reviewed security camera footage and interviewed the victim and determined that no crime was committed.

The victim had initially told police he didn’t see what the robber looked like and police were not able to provide a description.
