Red Line Trains Mostly Back To Normal After Fatal Accident In River North

DOWNTOWN — Red Line trains are mostly back to normal service after a woman was killed on the tracks Tuesday afternoon at the Grand Avenue stop, city officials said. 

Red Line trains were back traveling underground, but skipping the Grand Avenue stop, as of 3:45 p.m., the Chicago Transit Authority announced. 

Trains were rerouted after a woman was fatally struck at about 2:15 p.m. by a northbound Red Line train at Grand, city officials said. 

Witnesses at the scene said a woman who appeared to be in her 50s jumped in front of the train without warning, said Larry Langford, a fire department spokesman. 

The incident knocked out Red Line service from Hubbard Street to Roosevelt Road, the fire department tweeted.
