DOWNTOWN — The morning's thunderstorms are expected to stick around for a while — and could come with flooding.

The city had a flood advisory in effect until 8:45 a.m. Thursday and had seen up to 2 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service. The agency expected Chicago to experience some flooding and encouraged drivers to turn around when faced with flooded roads.

The most severe weather isn't expected to hit the city, according to the National Weather Service, but there could be strong storms with heavy rain and hail. The agency was expecting there to be 3/4 of an inch to 1 inch of rain, and temperatures were expected to hit 44 with wind gusts as high as 30 mph.

Friday also had a chance of rain before the afternoon and was expected to be cloudy with a high temperature in the low 40s, according to the National Weather Service.

The weekend should see warm weather return: Chicago could get warmer than 50 degrees on Saturday, said AccuWeather meteorologist Bob Larson.
